Speaker: Dorothy Schoeneman, 50+ recruiter for the Peace Corps,
Dorothy said she has spoken to several district clubs about her organization because she feels that Rotary and the Peace Corps are committed to the same goals and becoming a Peace Corps Volunteer may be just right for some members who are thinking about retirement.”
She said that the program requires a commitment of 27 months- three months of intensive training and then 24 months on site. You can request a geographic area, but not a particular country, city, town or village. You receive certification based on your life skills and experience, and you are matched to a particular place that can use your skills. All expenses, including living expenses, are paid for by the Peace Corps. You accumulate vacation days, just as in a traditional job, and you can use that time off to return home or travel in the host country.
